Interview : ‘It is an ‘East meets West’ love story’

Interview : ‘It is an ‘East meets West’ love story’

Katrina Kaif is taking bigger steps on her route to stardom in Bollywood. After tasting considerable amount of success from her debut film ‘Boom’ to her forthcoming film ‘Namastey London’ it is hard to say that she is not the preferred choice of most of the filmmakers of the time. With a talent to watch for and a beautiful face that leaves an impression, Katrina is all set to share the screen space with Akshay Kumar after her debut ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’ with him. More on the film, over to her.

    Excerpts from an Interview:

Is your not-so-glam look in the film deliberate?

I deliberately went for the look in the film. I wanted a non-filmi look. I did not want to get stylised and glamorous.  People in London don’t do that. Yes, they are always very groomed, pay attention to what they wear, but it’s not that they sport heavy .Tell us something about your role in the film.

It’s the role that I could identify with closely. The film deals pretty close to my real life. I’m born to an English mother and a Kashmiri father in real life. In the film my character is called Jazz and she is an Indian girl born and brought up in London. I was also brought up in London. I could actually incorporate lots of my own experiences into my character.

Is the film high on romance or comedy or is a mix of both?

The film is a romantic comedy and it’s a slightly more zesty and youthful version of a romantic comedy. It is an ‘East meets West’ love story. It’s a story about a boy from Punjab and a girl form London. I had a lot of fun shooting for the film.

That is obvious because the shooting took place in your hometown, London.

It’s always nice to go back to a place where you were born and brought up. Catching up on friends, going to the same malls, restaurants.

How about the on-screen chemistry with Akshay?

He is a person whom I have grown up and worked with. His concentration is so strong. I hope people like us in the film. I’m comfortable working with Akshay Kumar since he’s a thorough professional.

You’ve used your own voice in this film for a change.

My voice was dubbed because I didn’t know Hindi language. It was awful for me, but I have picked up and now I’m very comfortable with the language. I’m using my own voice in Namaste London, and also in other films like Apne and Partner. I’m getting better by the day and have mastered the art of Hindi films.

What is the USP of the film according to you?

All I can say is that it’s a beautifully written story and I’m glad that I got something so good at such an early stage in my career.

Don’t you feel you’re getting stereotyped playing the glam doll over and over again?

I have just started my career and I guess everyone goes through this grind. Give me some time and I’ll be ready for varied roles. Now I’ve varied films in store to prove otherwise. There is Anees Bazmee’s Welcome, David Dhawan’s Partner and Anil Sharma’s Apne. I need roles that I cannot only identify with but which give me scope to add something to them.

What’s the status of filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh’s Debi Chowdhurani?

I don’t know when he is going to make it. He approached me with a quite a few scripts. Some didn’t work out, some got delayed, though I don’t know why. Let’s see what works out in the future.

    AB’s first full-length English film

    AB’s first full-length English film

Amitabh Bachchan is all set to do his first full-length English film titled ‘The Last Lear’. Through this film he wants to pay tribute to Utpal Dutt who essayed the same role in his play. And certainly this would be the fitting tribute to this great actor of Indian cinema. This tentatively titled film is based on Utpal Dutt's play ‘Aajker Shahjahan’ and will be directed by Rituparno Ghosh. Other than Big B, Preity Zinta, Divya Dutta, Shefali Shah and Arjun Rampal are also in pivotal role of the film. The film will be produced by Arindam Choudhuri.

Amitabh Bachchan started his career as a film actor with Utpal Dutt in Saat Hindustani in 1969 and he is also very attached to Bengal and its literature. He liked the experimental plays that Utpal Dutt directed. Also as Arindam Choudhuri says Amitabh Bachchan was the first choice for the role of Shakespeare's King Lear and his baritone and towering personality made him ideal for the role.

Go hip-hop with ‘Karle Karle Dhamaal’

You got to see the teaser of ‘Karle Karle Dhamaal’ as a promotional video for Star Plus’s quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati now hosted by SRK. The full-fledged  music  video can now be caught at the TV channels brought to you by audio giant T-Series featuring Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. Choreographer Ganesh Hegde who turned a singer with his maiden album ‘G’ has sung the song. He has also conceptualised, choreographed and directed the video.

Over the span of few days the music composed by Vishal-Shekhar has turned out to be the talking point of the album named ‘Karle Karle Dhamaal’. As one looks forward to what's in store in the album, here is something for you. Other than the new track the album comprise popular tracks of Shah Rukh from his movies. You can hear a different sound altogether in this album and as well love to sing and dance with it. And the best thing is that you can hear to the music right away.
